The First Meeting of the 22nd Legislative Council Session for 1447 Hijrah / 2026 will commence on Thursday, 22nd Ramadhan 1447 Hijrah corresponding to 12th March 2026 with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam delivering a titah as the main focus of the Official Opening Ceremony. Before the Official Opening Ceremony takes place, The Legislative Council will be in session to review and endorse the Journal (Meeting Minutes) of the 21st Legislative Council Session which convened in 2025. The session will be adjourned to give way for the Official Opening Ceremony of the First Meeting of the 22nd Legislative Council Session.


This year's Legislative Council Session will discuss matters pertaining to the country's development direction through queries as well as deliberations focusing on the Supply Bill (2026) for the Financial Year 2026/2027 and the Development Budget to be fully approved and gazetted for use as of 1st April 2026. The Legislative Council Session will be chaired by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of the Legislative Council, and assisted by Datin Paduka Dr. Dayang Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah, Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council.

 

The Legislative Council continues to play a role as the country's highest legal and discussion institution. Legislative Council Members comprises Ex-Officio Members, Titled Persons; Persons Who Have Achieved Distinction; and District Representatives. Through courteous deliberations as well as a constructive discussion atmosphere, the Legislative Council functions as a platform to coordinate the views of the people and government in considering the nation's important policies towards supporting efforts to strengthen a sustainable economic growth, enhancing the people's well-being via inclusive social policies, as well as ensuring the nation's continued peace under the blessings of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala.

 

The Legislative Council session is open to the public who are interested to witness the deliberations at Dewan Persidangan, a day after the Official Opening Ceremony. Translation services in English is also available, by applying for it 24 hours before attending the session.

 

Education institutions are invited to bring their students as exposure to the Legislative Council, including the national legislative process, and deliberations within Dewan Persidangan. Visit application can be made by writing a official letter to the Legislative Council Secretariat at least 5 days before the date of visit.

 

The daily session's recordings are available via RTB Perdana and RTB Sukmaindera at 9 in the evening for the morning session, and 11 at night for the afternoon session. Official documents such as Hansard, Minute of Meetings, and Order of the Day are available at 'councils.gov.bn'. The latest information and development will also be published at the official Instagram, '@legcobrunei'.

 

Visitors and the public who are attending the LegCo session are advised to adhere to the rules and guidelines, including the dress code, and the procedure when entering the Dewan Persidangan to ensure comfort and the smooth-running of the session. These include: the official dress code - smart and modest as stated in the regulations, mobile phones should be put on silent and not allowed to take photos or videos without permission.
